what do you use or recommend for a calendar?

This issue is officially out of hand. My hand in fact- I can't keep my schedule all figured out in my head anymore. Missed a dr. appt. by a month. Utterly lame.

I've been very good at keeping track of all my dates in my mind, magically. I have a good memory for dates and check my emails and social networking sites enough to keep refreshed on when everything happens that I need to know about (that's my own gigs as well as others inclusive, and everything else like drs. appts. I am just really good @ remembering- clearly, not perfect though).

I have been recommended the iPhone. It'd be a great way for me I think cause it'd always be on me (like those times at 3am when you prob. won't have anything else on you to keep track by like a planner or whatever), I could set alarm/reminders and it's big and clear, easy to use (unlike the calendars in all my old phones, which are not really practical).

I don't like some things about the iPhone though. No insurance. $30 extra/month for internet I don't think I really need. Unlimited emails, but not unlimited text inclusive. Some other wonky things there too.

What would be a great phone that has scheduling and ease/practicality of use and maybe not so much extra/month....?? What do you use?
I might be able to just use a notebook-style calendar (like the kind you actually write in) but not sure.

Well, I gotta testify about the iPod Touch (or iTouch as many users are starting to call it). Video, music, apps, calendar, addresses, maps, itunes via wifi,; basically everything iPhone minus the phone and camera. But, the 2g model has microphone capability which means that certain apps will allow it to become a wifi phone (like skype, but they're a little slow).

Getting to the calendar functioning, we have a calendar on our website for upcoming shows:
    redswanfire.com/calendar.html
I love google calendar because you can "subscribe" to that calendar with the cal app in Mac OS which syncs to your iPhone/Touch. So, anyone with permission can get on google, add or subtract from the calendar. Then, next time you're at your machine, syncing the Touch will automatically force an update on Calendar, and both your mac and Touch get the new data. Plus, you can add events on the Touch and sync them back to the Mac whenever you get time.

Add to the fact that the 2G Touch has a speaker so alarms work now, and you've got power.

    {have I mentioned that I love my Touch?} :)

sparkle, i use google calendar for my dj gigs / website. if you're on yahoo, you can send yourself reminder emails (they have a calendar function as well.) google allows you to send yourself reminder emails for items in your calendar. i'm one of those who's first thing out of bed is either food/email or yoga and then the previous two.

tedward, have you managed to get the "fake iphone" functional? we were working on that hack and can't get the mic element to work.

No, I bought a headset but it had the wrong size connector, and I'm having trouble finding the right one. At least I have a good headset for my cell phone now. :)

I'm about ready to break down and get an iPhone headset (I hate earbuds).

my friend has one of those and seems to have a lot of trouble with it.

I've been recommended the iTouch thingy before, so that was a plus of sorts, yet I then see myself with my two devices and I'm not sure that's my solution.

I did start using my google calendar today though, and I definitely like the look of that, and the idea that the iTouch would sync to it whenever possible. Supposedly this site called rememberthemilk.com would sync in with all/anything like that as well and I started trying to use it but I dunno. It's just not something I want to log into extra from email I guess- where google calendar is right there as I check email-

Also my phone literally smashed into pieces the other day when I went to get it out of my pocket at the grocery store! I've managed to put it together in a way that it works now, but I def. feel it is on its last leg and I'm anxious for a new one, which is sad when you consider it's only 6 months old! (Sony Ericsson walkman phone) But se la vie. I'm sure my intentions brought that to fruition in some strange universal connected way.. but I digress.

My buddy who works at AT&T (which is and has been my service provider for years and years) says that the LG's "Escape" or was it "View" was a GREAT phone- it looked very good.. I've also been told a blackberry something would prob. be my ticket. Thoughts?

I have an LG 8300 and I use the crappy calendar in that. I also look at it fairly regularly, so I know when things are coming up. I also set alarms for events so I know that I need to do those things. It's pretty easy and it's always on me.
    • not sure what that is, but when the new iPhone 3GS came out and they put the "old version" 8 gigabyte ones on sale for eligible customers at $99, I decided why get anything that's an iPhone wannabe, got over my issue that it's $30 & uninsured, and am the happy new owner of iPhone. yay!
used the calendar a bit today, not bad.... I look forward to getting an app that really works awesomely too... ReQall looks good tho I haven't been able to DL it yet..
