But there were two bald plain clothed cops who asked me to "SEE" my laptop and then promptly took it form me along with three others from other DJs at the party. I wasn't even using it to DJ with. I was spinning CDs!!
So heads up DJs if you are playing music at a house/warehouse private party in San Francisco and it gets busted, take you laptop and run. His name is Officer Bertraund Badge # 414. I have contacted the Electronic Frontier Foundation and they are helping me get it back. Also please let me know if you know anyone else this has happened to.
Posted Oct 2nd 2009 11:45AM by Sharks
http://www.theboombox.com/2009/10/02/legendary-dj-mr-magic-suffers-fatal-heart-attack/?icid=main|main|dl2|link5|http%3A%2F%2Fwww.theboombox.com%2F2009%2F10%2F02%2Flegendary-dj-mr-magic-suffers-fatal-heart-attack%2F

According to reports, legendary DJ Mr. Magic died of a heart attack this morning. Though few details are known about his death, his life was widely celebrated; he was one of hip hop's most influential characters in the 1980's.

The DJ, born John Rivas, was the first to helm an exclusive rap mix show on a major station. His show, "Rap Attack," began airing on WBLS in NYC in 1983. Magic hosted the show, with Marley Marl as his DJ, ruling the airwaves for most of the 80's. Magic went on to become a producer and performer in his own right, working with the Force MD's on 'Let Me Love You,' and 'Forgive Me Girl,' and releasing a popular compilation series based on his show, 'Mr. Magic's Rap Attack.'

He was the inspiration for Marley Marl's legendary crew, The Juice Crew, which featured newcomers Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie and Roxanne Shanté, and was inspired by Magic's alias, "Sir Juice."

Magic's career came full circle when, 20 years after he hosted rap's first major radio show, he was picked to host old school rap station "Wildstyle" on the hugely successful video game 'Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.'

Magic was forever immortalized in Biggie Smalls' "Juicy," when he spit, "Every Saturday, "Rap Attack"/Mr. Magic, Marley Marl." He was also referenced by Nas, 2Pac and many others, including Whodini, who dedicated "Magic's Wand" to him.

This morning, DJ Premier wrote a letter eulogizing Mr. Magic, stating "He paved the way for all radio stations that ever did mixshows and also sparked the career of Boogie Down Productions due to the diss he showed when they came to shop their demo to him and was turned away which then sparked 'South Bronx' and 'The Brideg is Over.'

Mr. Magic was truly the voice of hip hop for an entire generation of fans, for whom the radio was the only place to hear the music. He will be missed.

I used to own a pair of Sony MDR-V700 DJ Headphones. These lasted a couple of years, but eventually the plastic ball joint broke apart, which I soon learned was a design flaw. Next I picked up a pair of Pioneer HDJ-1000 Pro DJ headphones, which served me well for a few years. Last night, during a gig, the plastic cracked and again I own a pair of headphones that will have to been kept together with superglue and duct tape.

I saw that Pioneer released the HDJ-2000s recently, but at quite a price jump. The 1000’s are $170, while the 2000s are $350. They’re sportin’ a magnesium swivel/fold mechanism rather than the plastic, but as it’s still partially plastic, I feel like it’s just going to break somewhere else. Does anyone have experience with these, or are they just too new to have any info about durability.’

What headphones have you had a good long-term experience with? Are headphones just not built to last?

I've been very good at keeping track of all my dates in my mind, magically. I have a good memory for dates and check my emails and social networking sites enough to keep refreshed on when everything happens that I need to know about (that's my own gigs as well as others inclusive, and everything else like drs. appts. I am just really good @ remembering- clearly, not perfect though).

I have been recommended the iPhone. It'd be a great way for me I think cause it'd always be on me (like those times at 3am when you prob. won't have anything else on you to keep track by like a planner or whatever), I could set alarm/reminders and it's big and clear, easy to use (unlike the calendars in all my old phones, which are not really practical).

I don't like some things about the iPhone though. No insurance. $30 extra/month for internet I don't think I really need. Unlimited emails, but not unlimited text inclusive. Some other wonky things there too.

What would be a great phone that has scheduling and ease/practicality of use and maybe not so much extra/month....?? What do you use?
I might be able to just use a notebook-style calendar (like the kind you actually write in) but not sure.

The best of it's kind!

I bought this last year and used it only ONCE. It's in brand new mint condition and even comes with a brand new RoughCase carrying case!

Feel free to contact me with any questions, but here are the basics:

The ZERO LIVE CONTROL MIXER is an all-in-one "core station" designed for live performance artists, remix producers, and serious computer musicians providing a digital mixer, audio I/O, MIDI controller, and effect processor all in a single unit. Each channel can be switched between sources such as a turntable, CD player, microphone, computer, instrument, MIDI controller, or MIDI controller + audio to implement a sophisticated live mixing setup with the simplicity of a FireWire connection. This gives you an incredibly powerful and flexible tool designed specifically for live performance and remix production.

DESIGNED FOR HIGH-QUALITY DIGITAL AND ANALOG AUDIO
ZERO LIVE CONTROL MIXER delivers truly professional-spec audio. It supports 24-bit 48 kHz high-resolution audio as standard, and can support up to 24-bit 192 kHz audio that’s equivalent to DVD audio fidelity. Along with the digital domain, analog components such as the input/output circuitry and power supply have been designed with painstaking attention to high-quality sound. The internal ±18 volt power supply design delivers plenty of headroom and excellent audio quality. The mic preamps are an ultra-low impedance design by Peter Watts, a veteran designer of numerous professional mixers throughout his tenure at the Trident Corporation in the UK and as chief designer and vice president for product development at Mackie Designs in the USA. Finally, the power supply is a universal design that does not require an AC adapter, ensuring that the world-traveling professional can get to work immediately, assured of the highest level of performance.

EQ VARIETY
The EQ Selector is a completely new idea, providing an EQ section with eleven different simulation types. They cover needs ranging from corrective equalization to boldly creative sound-shaping, giving you a variety of EQ responses and curves, filter characteristics, and even isolator modeling that can be switched independently for each channel as needed. The stereo four-channel ZERO4 provides one unit that is shared by all channels.

A FULL COMPLEMENT OF EFFECTS
One particular advantage of the ZERO series is its powerful effect system. On the stereo four-channel ZERO4, there are Insert effects for independent use on each channel, plus a Master effect connected to sampler/effect buss.

FIREWIRE CONTROL OVER AUDIO AND MIDI
ZERO LIVE CONTROL MIXER contains a FireWire interface that lets you process and mix audio sources digitally, at the same time as performing MIDI control. Since ZERO LIVE CONTROL MIXER contains everything else you need (audio interface, mixer, effect processor, MIDI controller), setup is simple, making it an extremely convenient choice for the mobile computer-based professional.

The ZERO4 also contains a loop sampler that can synchronize to the BPM. This makes it easy to sample or play back loops (or one-shot samples) in perfect time with the current tempo, giving you the flexibility for complex mixes or dub mixing.

A COMPLETE MIDI CONTROL SURFACE
By using the dedicated "ZERO Edit" software you can freely assign MIDI messages to the faders, knobs, buttons, and toggle switches. This allows you to use the abundant hardware on the ZERO Mixers to control soft synths, DAWs, effects processors and much more. Since each channel of the mixer can be assigned to different functions you can be mixing the audio from your computer with one channel while adjusting MIDI parameters with another.

PROFESSIONAL-LEVEL HARDWARE DESIGN
The crossfader of the stereo four-channel ZERO4 uses a two-rail design for excellent durability. The compact chassis is made of aluminum alloy and steel for portability and durability. The periphery of the control knobs is illuminated in two colors depicting audio mode and MIDI mode, ensuring accurate control on stage or in dim lighting.

Total deal for someone looking for a quality product!

Wrote an album a while ago. Finally moved to the city and landed a job. Now that I don't have to worry about surviving I can concentrate on my music. Looking to network and find DJs/musicians with BREAKBEAT, DIRTY HOUSE, AMBIENT, ACID ROCK and CLASSICAL influences. i know right? In short, Im looking for EVOLVED MUSICIANS who thrive on pushing the boundaries. I need musicians with this background because my album has these elements woven throughout. A little about the work:

Concept Album with story/theme throughout
7 part track with 2 before and 1 concluding(10 tracks total)
Satire dark in nature which brings the need for contagious beats and melodies
Looking to release remix version of album with multiple DJs reinventions
Intended to be incorporated into a live performance for stage/screen
Eventually will be looking for live MUSICIANS, PERFORMANCE ARTISTS and SCREENWRITERS to bring this to life

****I am an artist before a musician. This album was spawned from a drawing I did 10 years ago. It has/will take many incarnations, but the album will be the most important and influential part. I need passionate musicians to help me bring this to life. I have no recording equipment and first I am looking for someone with equipment to allow me to record my vocals. After that I will have something to present to interested parties who want to work with me. I realize money is hard to come by these days but I would definitely consider bartering or paying as much as I can for recording time. If you're looking for payment before working with me then you're probably not the type of musician i want to work with. If you are intrigued and passionate about creating something that is going to explode underground, then please don't hesitate to contact me. I am a perfectionist and have been crafting this work for 3 years now. I have it all mostly composed in my head. I want to encourage DJs and Musicians to give me input and incorporate their own sound into the album, therefore breathing new life into the final work.

I am not looking to make money so much as create something and get exposure. I am a true believer that we are all responsible for helping eachother. If we do the right thing the right way the fruits of your labor are sure to follow. This is why it is genius to collaborate from the very beginning. When album is finally ready for distribution I will donate percentage to many different groups who need help. Same for live performances. This is not a one time deal, I have vowed to continually donate proceeds to people who are less able/fortunate(including but not limited to victims of AIDS, cancer, hepatitis, abuse and neglect) Ive taken my time the last 3 years to perfect this album so now I'm ready to shift into high gear and work with SERIOUS musicians to complete this asap. Tentative release would ideally be by end of 2010.

If you want to make a difference then please join me in being that voice. There is a revolution happening right now. We are a part of it whether we like it or not. I'm looking for the other bleeding hearts out there. You know who you are.

Weight is an issue for me, since I have back issues. So the fact that these are only 40 and 32.5 pounds each is a big selling point for me.

As the double whammy of credit crunch and dwindling sales of vinyl and turntables kicks in like a bucket of laxative, Ortofon are having to pull the financial belt a notch tighter and say a teary goodbye to DMC. That's right battlers - you can use your old carts again. Well probably anyway - read the small print.

The official word from the DMC battleship:

DMC and Ortofon 2009

I would just like to let you all know that DMC have received a letter from Ortofon informing us that due to the current financial situation Ortofon are no longer able to sponsor the DMC World Championships.

The CEO or Ortofon does state in his letter to us that he hopes each country still gets the support from their local distributor as they DMC World Championships have been very beneficial to Ortofon.

Obviously if Ortofon does not sponsor that country, then the Ortofon only stylus rule is lifted.

Sally Mclintock
DMC Sponsorship / DMC Events Manager

So what does this mean? I have no idea right now. As far as I'm aware, aside from leaving a huge hole in the budget, the battle is still on and the never ending search for funding continues. I guess the story will unfold over the coming weeks and months as we hurtle towards heat time in March/April.

Out of interest, just how many of you who kicked, screamed and generally threw your toys out of your prams about the Ortofon rule do actually use Ortofon all the time now? While I generally object to being forced into particular gear usage, I do use Ortofon all the time now. I don't like Shures any less, I just like Ortofon more.

iTunes To Shut Down?

For the past five years, Apple's iTunes has been the internet's most successful music store. Now they're threatening to close in the face of proposed higher royalty rates paid to publishers. With MySpace music launching a week ago, 2008 is looking more and more like the year that will shape and solidify how music is distributed and paid for in the digital age.

According to an article in CNN, Apple could shutdown its iTunes music store this week, if a verdict from the US Copyright Royalty Board forces the company to pay higher royalty rates. A ruling is expected by the board tomorrow (October 2) on an application by the National Music Publishers' Association to raise the royalty fees paid to its members on songs purchased from all online music stores.

Assumingly, this is in response to the ever increasing ease at which the general public can get music for free online. In the music-industry's equivalent to targeting drug dealers instead of drug users, by shifting focus away from those illegally obtaining the music to those hosting it, it is conceivable that we could witness a sharp decline in the number of free songs made available on the internet. Or - in the best case scenario - a medium where musicians will get paid a publishing fee for all usage and no longer have to worry about which songs are floating around aimlessly on the world-wide information superhighway.

The association wants to increase rates by 66 percent, from nine cents to 15 cents per track, whereas Apple wants a decrease to 4.8 cents per track. In a statement submitted to the board last year, iTunes vice president Eddy Cue said that Apple would not stand for an increase: "If the [iTunes store] was forced to absorb any increase in the... royalty rate, the result would be to significantly increase the likelihood of the store operating at a financial loss - which is no alternative at all." Cue added that Apple would have no qualms about shutting iTunes down if it was not making enough money.

This is a tough case to take a stance on, because there definitely needs to be a higher publishing rate to better compensate musicians for the lack of traditional sales - with all of this talk about labels losing money, the people making the music should be considered as well. But iTunes was one of the first and few fighting to keep a value on music, and albums especially. By moving towards a MySpace Music model, the internet is slowly creeping towards becoming one giant radio station, and if the rules begin to tighten, it will inevitably lead to a place where the only sites hosting songs are the ones who can afford to pay a publishing fee. Is that good for musicians? Is that good for fans? Or is that just going to revert us back to a pay-for-play undustry controlled by the big dogs? The debate is open, we'll fill you in on the details as things progress.

BEIJING, April 29 (Xinhuanet) -- MySpace Karaoke (ksolo.myspace.com) downloads of users voices debuts Tuesday nearly two years after Fox Interactive, a division of News Corp. that owns MySpace purchased kSolo.com.

MySpace co-founder and president Tom Anderson said MySpace and karaoke are a natural fit.

"It is in part because music is so popular on our site," said Anderson. "But also because karaoke is such a fun and social thing, which is what we're about too. It's not as much fun to go to karaoke alone, but when you do it through the Internet or on your MySpace page, then you can share it with people."

Recordings can be prominently displayed on one's MySpace page and receive ratings from friends. As of Monday afternoon, the most popular song to sing was Sarah McLachlan's "Angel."

MySpace Karaoke and kSolo — the first major karaoke site — are just two destinations of a small industry of online karaoke sites. SingShot, owned by Electronic Arts, and Bix, owned by Yahoo!, are also big names in karaoke on the Web.

And YouTube has been the largest repository of people singing their favorite songs. While MySpace Karaoke doesn't currently have a video option, Anderson says it's in the works and that it will include a split-screen duet feature.

Users need only a microphone to sing into. MySpace Karaoke gives them the music to sing over (with vocals removed) with the lyrics scrolling across their computer screen. There are also numerous effects that users can play with to alter their recordings.

Right now, the site has between 2,000 and 3,000 songs available, all of them licensed from music publishers.

The music file-sharing company is trying to shed its pirate image. It just might work, too.
By Devin Leonard, senior writer
Last Updated: October 10, 2008: 2:44 PM ET

NEW YORK (Fortune) -- Recently, Nat Hays, chairman of Brooklyn's independent +1 Records, wanted to break a record by one of his label's new bands, The Morning Benders. So he went straight to Apple's iTunes Music Store.

That was no surprise. iTunes is the biggest retailer of digital music. But Hays also enlisted a less expected partner: Lime Wire, the music file-sharing service detested by so many of his major label colleagues.

"I consider Lime Wire a really important player in what we are trying to do," said Hays.

The major labels couldn't disagree more. The Recording Industry Association of America, their trade group, blames much of the music industry's declining sales - a 12% drop in 2007 alone - on illegal file-sharing made possible by such technology. The RIAA is doing its best to put Lime Wire, the last surviving big peer-to-peer provider with 70 million monthy users, out of business.

"Lime Wire is number one with a bullet," said Eric Garland, CEO of Big Champagne, a digital entertainment analytics company. "It's the Napster of today."

At the same time, however, Lime Wire is trying to reinvent itself as a legitimate music service with much to offer to its foes. It is supporting independents like +1 and even courting the big four record companies - Universal, Warner Music, EMI and SonyBMG - with an offer to transform its network of users into a Google-like music search engine what would be extremely lucrative for them.

"We'd love to work with the entire music industry," said Lime Wire CEO George Searle. "I think there are some people in the majors who see the potential of Lime Wire."

Taking a practical view
Not long ago, the thought of the big labels going into business with Lime Wire would have been laughable. But the music industry is changing rapidly. Earlier this year, Universal was suing MySpace in federal court for copyright violations. Now the majors are joint venture partners in the social network's new ad-supported free music service.

In the end, some would say, the future of of Lime Wire and the big record labels, too, may boil down to this: Does the music industry want to embrace the future (or even the present) and work with its one-time adversaries like Lime Wire? Or would it rather go down fighting its last and most epic battle over copyright infringement in the digital age?

+1 Records' Hays has made his choice. His label made a live EP by The Morning Benders for Lime Wire's new music download store. Lime Wire returned the favor by creating fliers for the EP. The band is passing them out to fans on tour.

"They are are thinking outside of the box and investing in the band," said Hays, referring to Lime Wire. "Those are the kind of people we want to work with."

The Lime Wire Store has only been open since March, but it offers almost two million independent label songs for 99 cents from bands like Death Cab for Cutie and The Hold Steady. The company added music by these two popular bands and many more through a deal announced in August with The Orchard (ORCD), a big online music distributor.

"The Orchard didn't take this step lightly - we were in talks with them for 18 months," said Orchard CEO Greg Scholl. "In the end, we are pragmatists and recognize that 70 million users have downloaded their software."

The social networking model
Lime Wire's search engine plan is even more ambitious. Lime Wire's Searle says the company would like to compensate record labels and their artists when users request their songs. The technology company has hired prominent music industry attorney Michael Guido, whose clients include Jay-Z, Avril Lavigne and OutKast, to sell the plan to the majors.

"This is something that should have happened a while ago," he said. "People now lament the opportunity they would have had if they'd licensed music to Napster. This opportunity is a million times bigger than Napster."

Lime Wire seems to be trying to rebrand the company, though its executives disagree with that characterization. Later this month, Lime Wire will announce plans to let users create their own private social networks within its peer-to-peer universe.

That will be attractive to major label executives, many of whom talk about the growing importance of social networks like MySpace and Facebook to the future of the business. "We've always been a social sharing network, but we never have described it like that," said Lime Wire COO Kevin Bradshaw.

One big obstacle
First, Lime Wire has to resolve its differences with the RIAA. In 2006, the music industry trade group sued Lime Wire in a bid to put it out of business just as it did with Napster, Aimster, Grozkster and KaZaa.

The RIAA complains that Lime Wire has built its enormous user base and created a lucrative business for itself by enticing its customers to download copyrighted music for free. Lime Wire makes almost all of its money by getting its users to upgrade from its free software to its $34.95 Lime Wire Pro.

In July, the RIAA argued in a legal briefthat, after two years of litigation, "the undisputed facts confirm what everybody (certainly every teenager and college student) already knows: Lime Wire's eponymous peer to peer software... is good for one thing and used for one thing - massive infringement of sound recordings each and every day."

The association estimates that 99% of the download requests by Lime Wire users are for copyrighted songs.

Lime Wire responds that it shouldn't be held responsible for the behavior of its users. The company's executives say they have never encouraged or condoned illegal-file sharing.

This is central to Lime Wire's defense. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2005 that Grokster, a similar peer-to-peer service, was liable for the violations of its users because it had induced their activities.

The RIAA, however, cites many examples of alleged inducements by Lime Wire to turn into "the next Napster."

Given its legal troubles, Lime Wire's campaign to legitimize itself may ultimately be its wisest litigation strategy. Guido calls Lime Wire "the last best opportunity for the music industry to save itself."

That may be overstating the case. But the major labels can't ignore that he's saying - even if the RIAA is right about Lime Wire.

"The people who are going to want to steal are going to steal," said Lio Ceraza, co-owner of Kanine Records, another Brooklyn independent that licenses songs to Lime Wire. "You can't stop them. You have to give the others the avenue to buy stuff."
Could it hurt it to plug it with blank 1/2" plug.

I know its kind of honky-tonk but putting that 1000 watt driver into a decent sub box was the best upgrade I've ever done. :-)

Peace out.

http://www.theoppositeoffaith.com/Press_release_DSI_001_01_full.htm

This is likely the last AMV video project Opposite of Faith will do. It is meant to be a demo of the advanced MIDI set up and creative application of the tools we are capable of. We remixed the song ‘Phaseshift’ and created the sound track to it. It feature the combination of the Legendary DJ Quest-one of the founders of modern turntablism, inventor of ‘Hamster Style’ and ‘Power Scratching’

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DJ_Quest

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyaSiUSR8j4

Once again this is a scratch soundtrack-all sound effects were created through DJ performance and/or sound design. Video cuts were done with Serato and any edits or warping were done in Ableton Live and After Effects.

The Dave Smith Instruments Evolver is the master sequencer and controller in this set up. You can see how it works especially during the end solo. Its sequencer sends out MIDI notes to control both Turntables-which are slaved via MIDI-changing their pitch which alters the speed of the turntable platter, This process alters the sound of what ever the turntables are playing and creating a melody matching the Evolvers sequence. The audio signal is also processed on a separate chanels which is brought in through the effects loop. The Ecler Nuo 4 and the Behringer FCB 1010 control parameter (MIDI Control Changes) to give Quest additional control options.

DJ Quest Set up 1:

Video:

Vestax Controller One Turntable
Rane/Serato Video SL
TTM 57
Mixer Video Cuts were done mostly in a separate pass using Serato Video SL
Vestax Controller One Turntable
Numark CDX CD Turntable
Ableton Live
TTM 57 Mixer

Various samples and sounds that need to be cut in a particular way were burned to CD and the Numark CD was used

The Koass Pad was used as a MIDI controller and the Evolver was used as a MIDI slave and sound processor

After three nights, I was told that I just wasn't enough of an energetic MC, that I wasn't cracking wise about the dancers (like, "Heeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrre's Gemini--check out the twins on her!" and "oooweee, I wanna dump a load in Mercedes' trunk!"). The ad in the paper has stated, "no experience necessary," and I, a 24-year vet, got fired after three nights?

I got fired from a so-called gentlemen's club for being too much of a gentleman, for not pointing out the finer points about each dancer's snatch! Is that messed up, or what? I'm so aggravated . . .

all tracks i use in this mix are my own personal choice.

i solely selected on feeling, on what music does to me when i listen to it. Music is emotion..
Hector Cardenas
International DJ, innovative producer, founder and front man of one of the world's most legendary party organizations: FunkyTekno Tribe (FTT) and Organic. -DJ Hector Cardenas has emerged as a pioneering force in the house music scene and has continued to be instrumental in the proliferation of dance music on a global scale. Hector Cardenas' versitility as a DJ is second to none, applying his own unique and highly sophisticated stlye to all aspects of dance, ranging from future house and funky tekno to hip-house mash-ups and jazzy grooves. Starting out as a club DJ in 1989, Hector eventually joined forces with founding co-partners Kevon Banks and Jerry Sladewski in 1992 to form FTT just as the burgeoning underground rave scene was exploding along California's sunny shores. Firmly establishing himself as an FTT resident DJ, Hector has played at some of the worlds hottest clubs and has shared the stage with many of the world's premier electronic music artists such as DJ Sneak, Junior Sanchez, Mark Farina, DJ Dan, Daft Punk and The Basement Jaxx to name a few. After years of great success touring and producing parties with the FTT crew, Hector now spends a lot of his time traveling and playing the international club circuit as well as playing residency at clubs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Recently, Hector has toured Amsterdam, South Africa, the Domincan Republic and Mexico and is now looking foward to spending more time in the studio honing his recording and re-mixing skills. found this plain layout
Easily Influenced
Gelly Kusuma and Mikey Velazquez
Together, Mikey and Gelly both launched the self-coined "HAWT Movement" in February of 2006 in Los Angeles, California. Best friends united by their relentless passion for music, they set out to change the way that people looked at house music, parties, and just having fun in general. "At first we just wanted to start a record label in order to showcase our own music, meanwhile having the opportunity to sign our favorite artists that we admire", says Mikey. "Along with that came the party, and that's what really put us on the map and opened up doors to gradually build relationships that will forever change our lives".

In May of 2006, HAWT Afterhours was born. On every 1st and 3rd Friday since the inception, HAWT's underground parties have not only showcased the DJ talent of various quality acts from all over the world, such as Inland Knights, Justin Long, Johnny Fiasco and many more, but they have also displayed the talent of so many of the great DJ's in the local scene. "We always looked back to the beginnning, before we ever had a gig and knew that this was an important step, something that people needed and appreciated", says Gelly. "Overall, the main focus has always been on bringing back that old school house vibe at parties, bringing friends together with music, and just breaking boundaries and having FUN", according to Mikey. HAWT also stands for "Having A Wonderful Time", and they have done just that with the help of Eddie Barajas, Mike Magana, and many more along the way.

Keep an eye out for original music and remixes by EASILY INFLUENCED, which has been getting played by many world class acts such as Derrick Carter, Justin Long, Phil Weeks, DJ Mes, Natural Rhythm, Ricardo Rae, etc. "We think our versatility will surprise people. We really do love it all, and that will become evident in our music the longer and longer we do this", said Gelly. He continues, "we want our style to basically be versatility, and never want to hold anything back. If we're feeling something, whatever sound or style that may be, we make it."

Bykowski
"Isolation is the gift. All the others are a test of your endurance. Of how much you really want to do it. And you'll do it, despite rejection in the worst odds. And it will be better than anything else you can imagine. If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods. And the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is." -Charles Bukowski"

Jack Monforte
In the beginning there was Jack...or so the story goes.
Jack "Freedom" Monforte has been spinning for over two decades now.
An underground fixture since the late eighties, he joined forces with two other promoters
in the early nineties to create Sweet Sundays.
Shortly thereafter he moved to Alaska, where he saw an opportunity to bring the underground techno scene to virgin territory, today Jack is considered one of the pioneers of the Alaskan electronic scene.
Moving back to Los Angeles in the mid nineties saw Jack earn a residency at
Club Diva where he opened up for Richard Vission and live acts like,
Rozalla, Donna Blakely, Alyus, Bad Boy Bill,etc...
In the early part of 2001 Jack along with partner K.C. Santana created Soulplanet Sessions.
a place where musicians,Djs and dancers could come together and create magic.
Soulplanet Sessions has hosted the likes of Marlon D,Master Kev, Tony Powell, Wayne Lyons and numerous other DJs.
Apart from being a producer/ DJ, his other passion is Graffiti art and photography.
Jack's appearances have included...Dirty Dirty House Club, The Clinic, Faith after-hours, Inspiration, Therapy (FTWK), Movin, Union Square Lounge (NYC), The End Up (San Francisco) and countless one offs.
From spinning hip hop to the most soulful garage house music, Jack is
constantly looking for the perfect beat.

Some people suggested that I give some information about what I do so here I go. I go to grad school for international development and my major is human security. I focus on human trafficking and plan to pursue a career in that field once I graduate. I am currently volunteering for this organization and will be interning with them over the summer. They have a very small staff but are trying to expand. I have planned this event with the help of my boyfriend and 100% of the ticket sales go directly to the organization. Myself and the DJs are doing this soley to raise money for this cause. Now some info on human trafficking:

The trafficking of human beings is the recruitment, transportation, harbouring, or receipt of people for the purpose of exploitation. It is estimated to be a $5 to $9 billion-a-year industry. Trafficking victims typically are recruited using coercion, deception, fraud, the abuse of power, or outright abduction. Threats, violence, and economic leverage can often make a victim consent to exploitation.

Exploitation includes forcing people into prostitution or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labour or services, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs. For children, exploitation may also include forced prostitution, illicit international adoption, trafficking for early marriage, or recruitment as child soldiers, beggars, or for religious cults.

I'd be more than happy to supply anyone with more information upon request. I don't want to write a book on here.

Since January 2007, the podcast has been downloaded 12,000 times. There are no ads and nothing is for sale. Just music to listen to .... I do this so my friends who have day jobs can listen to new commercial free electronic music every week. I also do this to help promote people who can mix well. Most mixes I get are sitting on someones hard-drive collecting digital dust when there are people out there dying for new stuff.

If you want to be a part of it, please send me a message with a link (to an online MP3 mix that is less than 100 MB) and I will review it to post. The average mix is downloaded 75 times. The most downloads we have for a single mix is 365 and counting.

How does the rated power of the speaker amps relate to the total draw to the generator. Do I just add them all up or is it more complicated.

So

A couple months ago, I was getting ready to purchase a CD Deck to add to my array of DJ Pro audio gear. Since I am very familiar with PCDJ Red and using MP3s I wanted a tried and tested CD deck that would BE ROCK SOLID, conform to the club “standards”, play MP3s, scratch like vinyl, and NOT FEEL LIKE a CD deck (you know what I mean).

I looked at the Denon 5000, Technics SL DZ 1200, Pioneer CDJ1000, and Numark CDX.

I went down to my Local Pro Audio Store (Ahh My heaven!!!) and spent 30 minutes on each one. I configured them to mix between two different decks (trust me the sales people were looking at me weird) and I spent 2 different days reviewing two decks at a time. That’s’ my kind of shopping 

My initial thought of all the systems varied from “WOW this is cool” to “ man this is lame”. I thought the Denon 5000’s have a ton of options of effects, pitch control, bpm settings, start, stop, but the spinning disk felt really cheep and it really feels like a CD player

. I thought the Pioneer CDJ1000 was nice and clean. Had all the basic CD controls. It had a couple neat features, all the buttons felt solid, scratching was OK, but I didn’t like the fact that the platter didn’t spin and it cost about $1200. (That’s pretty expensive for a CD deck I thought)

My first thought of the Numark CDX was. THIS IS AWESOME!!!. The Numark CDX is sooo Cool. This thing has it all. The Spinning platter with a real vinyl feels so real and the scratching is right on. Then the looping is perfect. You can set a 4 beat loop and then double it, ½ it, ¼, 1/8, … It sets the loops right on the beat and you tap the beat in. Really cool. And then the effects are really nice. As a DJ you never want to rely on effects or over use them, but these sound very clean and could defiantly add to a set. All this and for > $700.

I thought the Technics SL DZ 1200, were really nice. The platter feels very much like it sl 1200 turntable sister, but with a 10 inch disk. They look really cool and they have lots of nice features. These are very expensive and I wasn’t going to be able to get any $$$ taken of the “out the door cost” .

I thought long and hard about which one I was going to purchase and the decision came down to the Numark CDX. I was so excited to get one of these in my house and in my sets.

So first I looked on line to find the best price. Call me stupid, but I found a used CDX online for $400. The guy swore that it was in “NEW” condition, but when it arrived I could tell it had seen better days. It started up, it played a CD, but 2 minutes after the platter stared spinning it died and the platter stopped. Sounded like the record was running really slow and then I couldn’t start up again until you actually spun up the record. I checked all the setting for start and stop speeds but the motor was shot. I spoke with technical support and they said the motor was burned out. I’ve had my Technics for 10 years and never ever an issue with the motor. I got lucky and returned it to the guy cash back and all.

Then I decided I better get a brand new one. It was going to cost me about $700, but I guess its worth it to get working one. The second one I got was brand new and it had a major failure. The CD would stop playing or started skipping after 1 hour of play. That’s right you could only play CDs for 1 hour. I was having a party and the stupid thing stopped playing. So I returned it and got a third unit but this one would keep my CDs. That’s right it would play a CD, but it wouldn’t eject the CD.

I was so pissed off. I went back down to my local Pro Audio Store and these guys were so cool. That’s why I do so much business with them, they stand behind their products. I read all kinds of postings online about the CDX and I found out everyone is having the same problems with them. The CD decks are cheep and the Motors burnout .

Numark blew it. It seemed so cool, but just sucks.

I finally decided that like the Technns SL1200s the Pioneer CDJ1000 is the industry standard for a good reason and that’s because they WORK. I now own the CDJ1000 and found them to be bulletproof. Once you get used to them they work really nice. The scratching is right on. I’m still disappointed about the looping. They are hard to set a loop and keep the BPM right on with the song I’m mixing in. They don’t play MP3s or Wav files, but they work.

Has anyone else had similar experiences with Numark? Why are the such a shitty Pro Audio manufacture with good ideas that go bad?

Well I’m glad I got that off my chest

Pease Out
